VOICES FROM THE TRUNK
Voices from the Trunk" is a poignant biography penned by my grandmother, Norene “Luallen” Homan, chronicling the wartime separation of her parents, Elmer and Mary Luallen, during World War II. Amidst the turmoil of war, my great grandfather, Elmer Luallen, found himself drafted and stationed in London, UK, serving as a B-17 Bomber mechanic. Over the course of three long years, they endured separation, their only connection sustained through heartfelt letters traversing the vast expanse of the Atlantic. The genesis of this narrative springs from the discovery of a trunk in their home, a plethora of cherished letters exchanged during those tumultuous times, preserved for over five decades. Following Mary’s passing, the trunk emerged as a silent witness to their enduring love, inspiring Norene to immortalize their tale. The design encapsulates this profound journey, featuring a depiction of the actual trunk set against the backdrop of London's iconic Ben clock, as a B-17 bomber soars into the horizon, symbolizing the trials and triumphs of wartime love.
